Introducing Registered Reports

As the first platinum open access linguistics journal Biolinguistics is introducing Registered Reports.

The principled idea of Registered Reports can be summarized as follows: Perform peer-review before results are known in order to align scientific values and practices.

Registered Reports are reviewed in a two-stage process: A study is pre- registered and undergoes peer-review before any data is being collected. After a positive first evaluation, the submission is accepted in principle and researchers conduct the study. The results will be published, regardless of perceivedimportance, novelty, or conclusiveness of results.

This format is designed to minimize bias in deductive science, while also allowing complete flexibility to conduct exploratory analyses and report serendipitous findings.

For details see the BIOLINGUISTICS guidelines for submitting and reviewing Registered Reports.
